One more thing. If the fuel drained back into the built in fuel tank, it is likely the anti siphon valve on the fuel tank has failed, or doesn't exist. A-S valves act as another check valve for the fuel system.
A-S valves are usually located on the fuel pickup fitting. You should have a functioning one for safety. My SeaRay of about the same vintage had one built into the fuel pickup tube. it also had a filter in that same area. You might check it sometime.
