After rebuilding my powerhead and carbs I am still having trouble with this engine running correctly. It seems I am having erratic spark problems. Here is what I have done: Mark TDC of all cylinders on flywheel, used inline spark test light and timing gun, only cylinders 2 and 5 fired last time I checked it. After this I removed flywheel to inspect magnets, they all look good with no signs of movement. Measured stator resistance from yellow wire to yellow/grey wire =0.1174 (nominal=.17+-.05 ohms) which is out of tolerance. Reistance from pins A-B=947 Ω pins C-D=941 Ω (nominal=985+-25 ohms) so these are slightly out of tolerance also. I will attach pics of the stator also, wiring looks like it got hot and burnt up to me. Can I conclude my stator is bad with this data and without performing the PRV tests? I have also tried to test resistance of stator but got values far our of range in the megaohms (In the manual it appears they use analog meters but I only had digital, could this be the problem?). Would a bad stator cause erratic firing of spark plugs? I have had the boat out on the water and it seems to run differently each time. Also I believe my rectifier/regulator to be bad as I am only recieving 4.5 V from grey tachometer wire when engine is idling at 1000 rpm. It has been difficult to start and when it does get on plane it will all of a sudden lose RPMs, seems like it just cuts out. Please give me some suggestions on where to proceed from here.
