Can anyone provide me with the proper head torquing sequence and proper head torque for a 1989 85hp Force outboard. The model is 856A9A if that makes any difference. The head gasket recently blew around the number 3 cylinder and I plan on replacing it in the next couple of days once the gasket comes in. Thanks in advance for the info.

Start with the two bolts in the center of the head and work outward in a spiral pattern. Torque the bolts in three steps: about 100 inch pounds, next about 180 inch pounds, finally 225 inch pounds. INCH pounds!

Run the engine for a while then re-torque the bolts. Re-torqueing is factory recommendation--sometimes I do it, sometimes I don't. It doesn't seem to make a difference. They don't get re-torqued after they leave the factory.

Everyone, thanks for all the information. The picture is especially helpful. Also, I guess I probably should have the head checked just in case. Thanks again.
