1989 35 hp mercury

ok so I have a 35hp 1989 mercury outboard and have access to parts from a 40hp mercury around 1990 or so. is it possible to take the carb off of the 40 and put it on the 35hp? and if I did would it increase my hp?

Are you sure about year on the 40hp as they quit making a 2 cylinder 40 in about 1983 and the 35hp and 40hp 2 cylinders are the same engine
