It will certainly reduce the amount of Air that the Larger Primaries of the Squarebore could flow, and that could certainly screw up the calibration of the opening of the Secondaries.
The Mercruiser Adapter I showed in post #11, did allow the flow from the Primaries to access the Secondary Side, and was a better adapter, though still not a good as an Intake Manifold that was engineered for both Squarebore and Spreadbore Carbs
There are a few aftermarket adapters that better than the POS Edelbrock adapter. Here is one, others may have the divider the entire height of the adapter, or may omit it entirely
