I have a 1988 MERCURY 150HP With no spark. The motor was rebuilt in 2002 and since then the motor has not been started. The motor has great compression 115psi on all cylinders. I guess my first question is, what controls the spark to the plugs, I was told it was the trigger, then I was told it was the stator,, my second question is the I since the motor is a 1988, the controls does not have a external kill switch. Is there a kill switch built into the controls that would stop spark to the plugs. thanks

stator "builds" tha fire, trigger tells it when and where ta fire.....there is a kill circuit in tha control box.. should be an external "toggle switch" that uses a lanyard attachment....

The black/yellow wire grounds the switchboxes to kill spark. This wire is grounded when the ign key is turned off.

The CDIElectronics web site will have a troubleshooting procedure for your ignition, but the first step is to disconnect the black/yellow wires at the two switchboxes.
