The staple gun will depend on the type of adhesive you are using. If it is a high tack adhesive staple gun may not be needed. Low tack will require staples to hold carpet in place until glue dries.

Re: 1988 Lund Pro V 1700 interior rebuild

Alright, all the pieces are carpeted and it is time for reassembly. But, I am having trouble with my rivets. The mandrel is pulling all the way through my rivets, so I have figured my rivets are too short. My question is, can I just use self-tapping screws to fasten to the stringers under the floor? I have rivets that are supposed to hold up to an inch, and the floor is 3/4" plywood, epoxied (not sure if this matters), with carpet over the top, the stringer underneath is about 1/8" thick, so I thought a 1.2" rivet was long enough, but it must not be, Looking for fastener ideas. Thanks

Self tappers are fine, use stainless steel though. Even coated exterior grade screws will rust in a boat over time... ask me how I know.

Your carpet is easily another 1/4" of thickness if it's the foam backed marine type.

I agree use stainless steel screws but I pre drilled my first. what happens when using self tapers is sometimes the hole through the deck becomes bigger, thus the reason for pre drilling

Cool, that is a relief as I have several holes to deal with after trying the rivet thing. Back to work tomorrow. Thanks for all the help and advice. With a little luck I will have the boat out before it is too cold.
