Probably trim limit switch is bad, you can jumper it out just need to be careful not to trim up too high. Long term replace the switch but this is best done when doing bellows and you have transom apart

Thanks I’m having a different problem now on my 88 larson 3.0 when I cold start it it fires up right away and idles ok but when it warms up it won’t idle it will die unless I have rpm’s up and if it dies it cranks over very slow then won’t crank at all until it sets for a while acts like battery weak but test ok and neg cable was hot don’t know where to begin to fix

Hot cables indicate bad connections start with removing and clean all the terminals positive and negative until they are clean enough to eat your dinner off of what ignition do you have points or est likely bad connections are causing low voltage to the module and that's giving bad spark engine cant run right on bad spark put ground wire on distributor body

Bad connection will still lower the voltage at the coil, reducing the heat of the spark...
