Ok guys. Just started to gut my 88 Glastron Gx-195. Anything wood is pretty much rotten. The stringers were mush except for the fiberglass that was around the wood. My question to you guys is what is a reasonably priced marine epoxy to use when fiber glassing everything back together and where to get it. I am redoing everything that was wood. Also what is a decent foam to use for floatation foam under the floor. The foam that was in there had absorbed quite a bit of water. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Matt

Looks like your well on your way there. We basically have the same boats so have a look at my thread linked below.

Anyhoo...I used "US composites" 3:1 epoxy and was happy with the performance and the price.

A lot of folks here use pour in polyurethane foam, I used blue block polystyrene foam because, as you will see in my thread, it was free.

Advantage of pour in polyurethane foam is it is locked into your hull (wont pull up the boards if you swamp) and is not attacked by gas and oil in the bilge. That last reason is what makes it easier to be approved.

Advantage of blue or pink extruded polystyrene foam block is it will never ever get water logged (polyurethane will and that's a big part of the reason we are all here). Blocks are also dead simple to install. . It's disadvantages are the inverse of my comments on polyurethane.

To make it polystyrene block "coast guard approved" you need to bag it to protect from gas and oil. (I did not)

Best of luck!!

Welcome to iboats.

Please check out the iboats store fr fiberglass and supplies. I hear rumor that new stuff will be rolling out in a week ;)

You have to decide is regular fiberglass is good enough or you want to go with epoxy for stronger bonds. Keep in mind your boat was originally constructed with regular fiberglass.
