I noticed on my engine that the crank head assembly has about a quarter inch gap below it. I think it should be flush with it but I am not sure. Anyone know. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have had some help on here before and I would like to thank the guys that have helped.

You want to zoom out with that pic so we can get a better Idea of what you are trying to show. Not quite following where this is at.

I added a picture that shows more of the engine. I think the part is called crank head assembly. I have read on here about service manuals and repair manuals. Do I need one or both and are some better than others?

Yah you have a big problem there. That is supposed to be down tight with a bead of Locktite 515 sealantaround the flang face and bolt holes. You need to pop off the the fly wheel, stator, and trigger. Get at the flange and clean everything up. While you are at it you should replace the seal in that piece and check the crank for wear. Then bolt everthing down and then reassemble. You will also want to replace the o-rings on the outside of the flange. You will see them when you take it off.

If you don't the top cylinder is going to run lean and you will destroy your block.
