Hello all I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.. I have a Dt 175 v6 on my 87 baja fish and ski.. It ran like a dream last year a d ever since I started running it this year it has been horrible.. It starts just fine And I warm it normally with the choke. When I put it in reverse to back off the trailer it dies. It takes me starting it and putting it in reverse to get it to finally go.. When I switch from reverse to forward it dies again.. When I finally get it going it will only get up to about 10-15 mph then it starts "surging" it will almost get on a plane then slow back down, and it will just keep doing that .. I've replaced all fuel lines and fuel filter ... I'm not sure what else to do.. My normal boat mechanic said it may be the " stAtor" or "power pack" .. Is he right or just trying to charge 1590 bucks??

electrical can be tested to see if that is a problem, along with compression, spark, and timing to see if all is in spec. at problem RPM
If it is then you need to look at fuel.
How old is the fuel?
Test the fuel pressure/vacuum to make sure the delivery is OK, as it sound like a pump, restriction, or air leak problem

the fuel isn't old at all. I actually just ran a full tank through with a can of sea foam to try and remove any moisture that may be in there...im having the electrical tested today so should I have him check the othe things you mentioned???
