Ah Hah!!! Neutral GelCoat from local distributor and then Pigment from a different supplier. Your initial question about Gelcoat being Gelcoat now makes sense!!! While Gelcoat IS a polyester resin based product there can be subtle differences from one mfg to the next and mixing tints with different bases could make a difference. I'd shoot a PM to ondarvr. He's the MAN here on the forum when it comes the Chemical Make Up of Poly and Gelcoat. If anyone would Know HE WILL KNOW!!!!

Re: 1987 Sea Ray Seville Bow Rider Restore Project

I decided to sand the gelcoat and reapply another coating or two. I talked with a Technical Specialist from Sea Ray and he stated that my boat originally had Spectrum gelcoat installed. Spectrum is very expensive compared to other brands. Is it worth it?

I installed my engine on Saturday. I have a Mercruiser 3.0L Alpha One. Can anyone give me any information on engine alignment? The rear motor mounts are fixed and I only have one adjustment on the front of the motor. The alignment tool only goes in the motor about 1" with very little effort. After that, it binds up. I am not sure where to start.

Guys, need help. I installed my engine and cannot seem to get the engine aligned. I have a Mercruiser Alpha 1, 3.0 L. The rear mounting bolts are fixed. I only have one mounting bolt on the front. I have raised and lowered the front of the motor (maximum in both directions) and still can't get the alignment tool to go on easily. I found an adjustment that allows the alignment tool to go on but it is a snug fit. In other words, I can install the tool with one hand, but it does require some effort. I can't press it on with just my fingers. I am not sure what else to do besides taking it to a dealer.

Guys, I took my boat out on the July 4th weekend. I am still not convinced that I have my engine in perfect alignment with my outdrive. I did not hear or feel any difference in the motor compared to "before restore" state. In fact, I thought it ran better. However, the alignment tool did not go in with two fingers. It was a snug fit, but there was no binding. Any thoughts on what I should do? Is it worth taking it to a dealer? Also, the boat seems to be leaning a bit more to the left when I am driving. My dad told me it always has, but it seems to be more then I remember. I have to move my kids around to help level out the boat. Any thoughts on what I can do to reduce this?
