I picked up this Islander last year, needs a full restoration. Seems like this is a great place to seek help and guidance!

Well, thank you... Started actively working on the project this past weekend. Have about 20 hours into the dismantle and expect to double that before I am down to tin. I have compiled a fairly detailed list of "stuff" to get and realize the cost and labor ahead. I'm budgeting 5-10 hrs a week for the rebuild so expect it will be most of the summer getting it done.

Sign of the times I guess.
I really like that boat.
Keep posting someone will wake up. Lots of aluminum boat threads to here to review. and ask questions.

No worries... Hopefully, when I need help it won't be so quiet. The boat literally sat in a cow field since 2007. The Interior wood is toast and the motor has set up, but the overall condition seems to be good if you can appreciate that logic. Someone put a full camper top on it and obviously used it for trolling. My intention is to get it back to full working order for some Salmon fishing on Lake Ontario.

Thanks for the welcome. The boat is a 1987, 4.3l I/O need a complete rehab. I intend as mentioned above to gut and rebuild to former glory of a Lake Ontario Salmon Catcher...

22'ftr ? Looks good on outside ,fun boat to renovate,lots of room on deck for fishing .I'm jealous that you have the 4.3 v6.Mine is the 2.5 OMC 4 cylinder.Looking forward to following you and your rebuild

Yes, it's the 221V.

I wouldn't be jealous about having a four-banger... These boats are so light that you really don't need much HP to push them around. I'm sure I will never operate above what you're capable of.

What are your thoughts about the boat being a little light in the bow and riding much nicer if some weight (200 lbs) is transferred forward?

I would carry my anchor,tackle and coolers up front to keep the bow down.
I have a freind who swears he used to pump 60 gal of water into the bilge when trolling for walleye on Saginaw Bay.
My 19' Islander is light in the bow so I moved a battery for my kicker into the bow and that helped some.
You are correct about being light in the bow.

I don't have an Islander, but I do have a 22ft supersport with a v8 mercruiser that was very butt-heavy. Prior to last season I added a bowmount troller and 3x group31 batteries just forward of the helm, as well as hydraulic trim tabs.

I can easily slice through wakes that 2 years ago I would generally come off-plane for or face bone-rattling consequence. I can't say exactly where to split the credit between the battery weight (a bit over 200 pounds, plus the weight of the motor up n the bow) or the trim tabs. I can say that I highly recommend both, especially the trim tabs.

I intend on moving the main and aux. batteries forward for sure and will most likely add trim tabs as the wife can get a little nervous. I also plan on mounting the 9.9 on the port side to help balance my weight and keep it easy to view with the transducers on the starboard side to help reduce any interference/turbulence and make an easy run up the side of the boat for cabling.

I'm going to pass on the idea of flooding the boat, however... LOL

Great find. I really like the colour scheme. I’d like one with the outboard bracket someday.
Where is the fuel talk located? If it is at the transom, would it be feasible to move it forward?

Haven't decided if I'm just going to touch up the faded blue and call it good or change things around a little. Have been looking at a couple of color change options.

I've been watching one listed here, if it had a 4.3 I'd be much more interested. In my case, I really want an SS, and would convert it, so I keep looking, hoping for a 20-22 SS.
