Hi there, newby to this forum, and boats. Picked up a 87 Beretta SS but would like to find a manual online. Can anyone help out with this. TYVM in advance
from the only authorized place for OMC manuals. The other question i have is there more than one 2.3 OMC engine....;? and where would i find this info?
You better make friends with ebay. Before you sink any serious money into it do as SD suggested.2.3 OMC. And thanks for reply.
Oh boy, I had the 2.3 Cobra. Can't give it any good review at all. After searching for a while I did find an exhaust manifold a few years back. Chinese aftermarket for $600.
Ok have some pics. Tryed to go for first run yesterday. Turned over wouldnt start. New battery ;is there a safety switch kill switch for the ignition?....I had the choke on the handle pulled side ways. Help... guys at the dock said it was a decent boat for the price.... posting pics. You better make friends with ebay. Before you sink any serious money into it do as SD suggested.

Original outboard product and service manuals for Johnson, Evinrude, Gale, and OMC
Ken Cook Co. sells Original Product Literature Supporting 1996 and Older Outboard Marine Corporation Products, limited supply of original printings of Johnson, Evinrude, Gale, and OMC manuals are still available. On older literature, we may provide a machine copy reproduced from a master file...outboardbooks.com
please note that OMC was operating as a JV for outdrives between 1994 and 1999 which was primarily volvo stuff with OMC stickers, and they went out of business in 1999
parts for your 2.3 are mostly NLA
the 2.3 was never paired to a stringer, so you have an early cobra.
the 2.3 exhaust manifold is NLA and they are prone to rust out.
now back to your 87 boat with the least desirable motor in it. did you check the transom and stringers for rot before you bought the boat?
well hopefull i have this one thats decent.......we looked at the stern today...not too bad....Oh boy, I had the 2.3 Cobra. Can't give it any good review at all. After searching for a while I did find an exhaust manifold a few years back. Chinese aftermarket for $600.
how did you look at the stern?well hopefull i have this one thats decent.......we looked at the stern today...not too bad....
You can't know the condition of the transom by looking at it. You need to drill test holes from the inside to see if the wood under the glass is wet or rotten. Start from the bottom & drill a series of holes with a small bit to see what you find. Don't drill thru the outer skin. This step is recommended because your boat is more then 30 years old & boats of that vintage unless stored in a sarcophagus are prone to rotten wooden transoms & stringers because of age, storage habits & pizz poor building methods. That's just the way it is. My boat was a 19 ft. '87 Starcraft & the exterior was almost like new. But the transom was shot. That's why I parted it out. Good luck.looked at it from the back. whats the "test".
ok question, issue with starting boat .ls there a safety shut off switch on the boat? where would it be located if so.took a spark plug out, no spark. TYVery much in advance
