Hello everybody, I was wondering if anybody could help me figure out what kind of throttle cable I need to get for a 1986 Mariner 40HP 6E9 motor connected to a quicksilver throttle shifter. . I so appreciated if anybody can help me. There is no markings on the cables.

Are the rest of the letters and numbers missing from the engine ID?

I suspect you might be after the cable end fittings moreso than the cable itself since the cablers are pretty generic. Or do you plan on reusing your end fittings?

You can get Mercury branded cables, Yamaha branded cables or Teleflex branded cables.

Just measure the length of the existing cable(s). Then get replacement cables of the same length. Remove the cable end(s) from the existing cables and install them on the new cable(s).

If you want new cable end fittings then it might be easier to look them up in the Yamaha parts catalog. Still available from Yamaha. Mercury seems to have abandoned the Mariner line.

Thanks for the response, so on amazon I see that there are different types of mercury branded cables. There is Gen1 and Gen2 . I also see a universal type of throttle cable.
