What your saying makes since but the key is holding! I haven't tried that submerge test with no impeller housing attached. I will but I would not understand why water wouldn't enter that cavity. I'll check
Test conducted and water does flow up thru the plate!

that key way notch on the impeller seems so wide and deep ...it must be just me I guess .

in despair if nothing else works and you do have several impellers...cut a nocth (part way of course) opposite the existing notch. Cut the slot the size of the drive key diameter no wider !!! retest

if nothing works.....stop put the whole issue aside 24 hr... restart from scratch or have a buddy do it...and don't tell him how to do it :)

the key is slipping or the impeller is sliping on the key either way the impeller is not turning or water is not treaching the impeller housing

if you submerge the gc with no impeller housing ... just the base plate
does water come up the banana shaped openning of the base plate ?

hard to see from photos but....

that gc uses a straight PIN key ...according to the parts list your impeller looks like the "tear drop " impeller key type ??? are you using the proper impeller # for your motor ??

the part numbers match up with the parts list impellor 0386084
key pin 0300611

This is the third time I have rebuild the water pump in this motor.
Never had a problem before. I am going to purchase another impeller housing and see if that helps. This will be second replacement for this rebuild.

the notch is perfect fit for the key in the impellor. . the notch on the shaft allows for a little play. There is no indication on the shaft that the impellor or key is slipping around the shaft.

I have been consulting with a mechanic. He is as confused as I am.

I am very respectful of people try to help me. I keep my hands in my pockets

did you keep the original parts ..do they compare 100%

the water pump is pretty simple device > submege it fully in a tub > get a drill and run it , it will either pump water or not pump water.

if it does not pump water , get a new housing , it probably has a crack in it that you cant see.

i had one with a crack a few years back ,it did my head in , posted on another forum , nobody had an answer, although it was suggested that there was a crack.
after investigation with a magnifying glass the crack could be seen.

Housing has been replaced but that would be my next move. I've been dealing with this for several weeks. Ordering parts, waiting for delivery, replacing parts with no results. Only thing left is order another housing and cup. I am very sure that the impeller is not slipping on the shaft.

could the impeller under load be slipping on the brass sleeve ?
No slippage verified!

are orignal parts junked or can you rassemble with them ... you may spot something
I assume some.... water flow was still available

if not then ... try to sleep on it... one more night .

Had to replace the impeller.
Have swapped back and forth from old to new parts with no results.

I've taken several naps in- between time spent on this repair the last three weeks šŸ˜

suggest you assemble the thing and try a lake run...

With reference to item 29, you might simplify by testing the pump manually/semi-manually. If you test the assembly by turning the driveshaft clockwise by hand, you should feel friction from the turning pump if it's working. You can also get water bubbling up from the exit hole (where the tube goes). If you turn the shaft at higher rpm with a drill, you can determine if that is when slippage occurs (might indicate poor contact between the impeller and the shaft key). You would want to be sure the intake passage below the impeller are not blocked with mud or seaweed.

While the lower unit is removed, you can force water up the tube and see that it exits from the powerhead (use the garden hose, with the outlet size narrowed to about the size of the intake tube -- male portion of a quick release hose attachment comes close.) You should get water through the block even if cold, as the t.stat has a by-pass -- which could be blocked, by the way.

would a simple crack stop 100 % of the water flow upards ?? and pumps today have a SS liner cup !

i figure " even if the water pump" was close to a total write off , it should still pump at the very least some water ,some spurting or something 'all i am getting is steam' ,
it looks brand new in the impeller housing `hence the reason for my decision to only replace the impeller originally , , ,

i tried sucking on the pisser hose and the steam is hot ,there is definitely no water making its way from the pick up to the motor via water pump, i can feel friction from the impeller in the housing when i turn the shaft indication that the impeller is contacting the housing "theoretically " sufficient to pump water.
just the slightest hose pressure when the muffs are on it pumps solid and warm "not hot at all".stream of water.

i am in Australia and a complete housing for that pump is around $60 , i consider this too much just to experiment replacing a part that i would normally consider serviceable.
