Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and to boat repair in general, however I have years of auto/diesel tech experience so I'm not totally clueless. I picked up a 1986 Astroglass 151B for a $100 bucks, knowing it was going to need some love. I started to replace the floor when I found it was going to need way more then that. Since buying this boat I built a wooden gentry to remove the top cap which I did today.

I would like some recommendations on the type of wood I should get to replace the transom and stringers with that would be available at home depot? What thickness of wood would be best for the floor? Should I use water sealant on the wood before it goes into the boat? Any other information y'all have for me would be greatly appreciated. I'll post updates as this project progresses.

Here I few pictures to show how I got it and where it is now...

Exterior grade plywood will suffice for the transom AND stringers. Don't get the treated ply as more often than not its dripping wet with the preservative they inject into it so you have to wait for it to dry out before you can glass it.

All the wood should be sealed with glass & resin prior to installation. You might want to review the stickies at the top of this forum as it'll go over the process.

Would also suggest going through a few of the resto threads as it's bound to answer a lot of your questions.

Good luck!
