I have a 86- 6hp merc. I placed the throttle in reverse gear. Removed three bolts that hold lower unit in place. After removing the three bolts the unit slid out about 3" then got hung up on something. Is there something else I'm supposed to disconnect for the unit to completly come out? Thanks

If this is the same as many of the newer motors there will be linkage up in the powerhead, to one side of the carb. Held in by a clip/pin will be the shift rod; you'll need to pull the clip/pin assy up and out to free the shift rod.

Check this site out for a parts illustration of your motor:

Be sure to click into the diagram as per your motor's serial #.
