Hello all --

mercury 115 - 1986

Today checking the spark plug found some pitting, looks like the piston is just starting to burn.. All others look fine, #1 is ok #2 is the one starting.

lookin in there see a small moon shape burn right on the top, somewhat flaky like i could knock it off but dont want to do that.

If the carbs were lean would #1 have the same problem?

Motor run well, thinking random spark issue in #2?

http://www.yogavayu.com/burn/piston2.JPG
http://www.yogavayu.com/burn/piston2_a.JPG

sorry u will have to zoom ms picture viewer works well..

What should be my next steps/ change plugs see if pitting starts again

maybe this was a temp probelm some other time as that i have not changed the plug in 2 years, would think if this was going on for 2 years would be worse?

would change the power head but when changeing lower unit oil decent amount of metal on the lower drain screw, but lower unit run good.

thanks

-tom

I'd clean the top carb, and index the flywheell and check timing on #2.

When's the last time waterpump and fuel punp were serviced? Everything adds up over time.

-W
