I have a 1986, 115hp with no spark on #2 cylinder. After gathering info from your forums I swapped out the upper and lower switch boxes and still no spark on #2. I have checked the trigger wires and they appear good according to the readings I got on my ohm meter. Readings were all consistent at 1300 ohms (checked between brown without yellow sleeve and white with yellow sleeve, white without yellow sleeve and violet with yellow sleeve, violet without yellow sleeve and brown with yellow sleeve). I switched coils, plugs and spark plug wires between 2 and 3 and still no spark on #2 (#3 still fired fine). I also tried removing the white wire connecting the two boxes and again no change. I have 125 lbs compression on all cylinders. Please any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: 1986 115 Inline Six Ignition Problem

Each trigger 'should' trigger one cyl on each switchbox.

Ohms tests are sometimes misleading, a broken wire, in the trigger lead to the switchbox, but butted up together CAN give a good Ohms reading but fail to carry the current under load. A DVA Meter is a much more reliable testing method.

the fact that you switched the switchboxes, coils, and removed the bias, all with no change, leads me to retesting the trigger with a DVA Meter and I exppect you will see a low or no reading.

Try switching trigger leads and retest for spark to see if it moves to another cyl.

DO NOT attempt to start, only test spark.

By switching trigger leads , do you mean changing the position of the trigger lead, for example switching the brown and white wires. Just want to make sure before I screw something up.
