i pulled all 3 carbs off to clean them. i know the middle carb is in the right place. is there a top and a bottom carb? or are they both interchangeable? i relized there were certain numbers on the top of them after i put them back on my motor.

Depends on the engine. Somtimes the jets are a little different for different cylinders, and if you have an enricher valve, the top carb has the float bowl fitting to feed it.
