Have had a few issues with it in the 3 years I have had it. This is the 1st with the oiler system. I received the new reservoir along with the air check valve and the oil check valve today. Will install all 3 in the morning and test run it to see if it solves my problem.

'83... only year that had oiler and single ram TnT.... may have been mid year tha oiler was added.... lotta dead brain cells ta remember for sure....
The 84 V6s still had the Single Ram TnT. In 84, only the Inline 6s and the 66.6 in 4 got the New Trim System

to old and forgetful ta argue 'bout it... could be but think tha '84 had a three ram also.. maybe not all but those were some transition years ('83/'84) with trim, block design, chargin' stuff, mounts and such... most internet parts list are no help with pining down what went where and when either.. at one time i had all tha merc microfiche stuff that was as accurate as anything could be for parts.....

since you have no "history" about this motor then i would also recommend gettin' rid of tha oiler... not knowin' about whether or not its ever been hot or not over tha years is not a good thing....... jmo

history of a motor is very important ta know... ya mostly can't go with "tha seller says" answer... most either don't know for sure and/or flat out lie 'bout it..... jmo

QBhoy i gotta disagree with ya on tha oiler.. merc kept tha basic design around for over 21 years so ta me thats not a bad design.. tha main reasons for failures was/is ta poor maintance and/or over heat of tha motor which weakens tha ring gear. so ta me generlizin' tha thing as a whole is not an actual fact..... how many have you owned that gave up tha ghost???. i've run tha V6 since 1976 and only problem i had and or dealt was for above reasons............ jmo
Hi duke dog.
I may stand to be corrected, but as far as I understand it, there are slight variances in the design between these particular motor’s pump design…compared to say a similar or slightly later era 3 cylinder 90hp for example. I’ve just known of far too many in the local to go wrong over the last few decades. I’d even say that almost all of them around here have had their system bypassed by now. Favouring pre mix. Just the v6 black max type engines, I’m referring to. My 87/88 black max v6 blew up in a horrible way when I was a younger man. Traded get in for parts for a nearly new (at the time) 1997ish 150 v6 (with the trim switch on the cowal). Without being certain if those later models had the same issue…the very first thing I did was by pass the oiler. She lasted all the years I had her and more. Still going as far as I know.
Fast forward to the current days…I have a one early 150 v6 again. Had her for about 6/7 years now. She’s pre mixed too. In fact, I’m almost sure that any I know of are now running 50-1 in the tank.
Had a few 70-90hp Merc over the years. Those that had oiler systems…I let them be and just made sure the fittings and lines were always as they should be. Never had an issue with that type. Just the v6 ones.
But hey….im sure one could argue that I should have inspected the pump and its supply etc etc more closely, all those years ago. Was likely fairly naive to it all back then. But like I say…wasn’t just me to have issues.

Anyway. All the best Dukedog.

jus know tha V6 stuff... a little pre (inline 6's) V6 era... oiler was form "83/'84, can't remember for sure exactly when tha oiler came out on tha V6, tha design stayed basically tha same for 20+ years...

one thing is certain, tha ONLY ones ya hear 'bout are tha ones that take a dump... you never hear 'bout tha 100's maybe 1000's that are still tickin'''.... have a coupla guys with oiler motors that are really pushin' a lotta years.. motors they bought new a very long time ago... but pre-mix is a sure thing as long as ya don't "forget" one time!.. my choice with my junk i had 'cause i always turned tha "wick" way up on them all.............

Being old and forget full. I put the measured out oil into the almost empty tank. Shake the tank enough to pre mix. Then take the tank to the 0 % E gas. I ONLY refill the tanks. Not all dock help know how to refill the tank correctly.
I tip the girls $ 5 to carry it 40' to the car. I then show off by putting it into the trunk. The joys of Geezerhood. :)
