1985 90 Evinrude

I'm trying to get an old Evinrude 1985 90, to turn over using the remote control key, but dead. I can jump the solenoid, and the motor turns over. Is there a fuse link in the remote housing ,or is everything at the Engine?

There is a 20 amp fuse on the engine wiring harness.-----Little black rubber item.-----Or the neutral start switch in control box.----Does primer click when you push in the key ?

No Click when the switch is pushed in, Il search for the 20 amp fuse in the Harness. Thanks for the reply.

Find the fuse near the starter solenoid.-----Fuse is about 5/8" long.

racerone I never found a fuse, but the big red Plug that mates with the Control Cable end is real bad and a lot of the wires are Bare, possibly causing shorts and open circuits. I will cut all the wires and put them together, with spade connectors, until I get all the circuits back together, and test the motor. This 90 has been in storage for a couple of years, since I purchased the boat motor, and trailer, for the motor. I had it running with all the controls present. It ran fair with a little rough Idle. I'm sure the carburetors and the ignition needs attention. The compression then was around 112 each cylinder. Don't know the history of these 90's in 1985. Were they any good or Lemon's? I noticed that this motor TEL Tale Pee, comes off the bottom of the manifold, was this a problem with over heating on this model too?

From The History reading articles I've read , that my 1985 Evinrude Engine is a Cross Flow engine. Don't know much about which is better tho, the Loop Charged or the Cross Flow. Is my engine worth putting any money into.? All I know is the Compression on all Cylinders are at 112 psi and all even. I need to rebuild all the engine wiring , as its bare right out of the big plug , that mates with the remote plug.

It left the factory with a fuse.----Since the wiring has been molested ( wiring and 12 volts are confusing ) all bets are off.

I'm trying to locate a good used Plug with wiring, A good schematic will help too. I found one on the web put it was blurry, will check the Manuals for a clear one.
