1985 50 hp mercury 4 cyl

not sure where to start trouble shooting it started when i tried to back the boat off the trailer ran high RPMs it came off but then i got on the maine river and it would only go slow when i tried getting on it it would have high rpms but it wouldnt move so i would back down on the throttle and it would go. Slow but it would go does anyone have a answer to my problem thought it was shear pin but it doesnt look like it has a shear pin

It sounds like the rubber hub is shot. Get a new prop. I recommend a Solas for under $100.

You can have it rehubbed but Its probably pretty old.The new Solas suggested will give you the latest technology.
