Re: 1985 21' Wellcraft

Thanks Celtic, This is where I'm at now, its tabbed in with 1708 and two layers of 1708 over one layer of CSM. It rained a couple of days after I laid the glass and a little water got on and turned the glass white (right under the drive hole), it feels hard, should I be concerned?

Nah, you're Golden!!! Paint it with some Rustoleum Pro Oil Based Paint Or better yet get a PreVal sprayer from Home Depot and spray 2-3 coats of gel coat on her to make her PURDY!!!! and to protect her a bit. DONE!!!!

Okay, good to hear! I have another question that I asked earlier that went unanswered, when I drill the hole for the drain plug, should I PB a piece of pvc in the transom or buy a brass sleeve and install tool? I'll be using the SS drain plug from post #16.

PVC will work just fine with the Garboard type drain. Make sure to install the PVC and the Garboard fitting with 3M 5200 Sealant. Drill the hole a bit oversized and slop a lot of 5200 on the PVC to coat the hole and the pipe. Then pre-drill the screw holes, coat them and the screws and the back of the plate and install. Clean up with Acetone.

Two sheets of 3/4 marine grade plywood for the transom.

How did you end up cutting the front wall of the engine bay? I just got the floor out of mine. I did it the same way you did. Couldn't believe how easy it was. I was planning on doing the transom this weekend but I think the tropical storm will put a hault to that.

Question I am starting on removing my floor in one of your earlier photos you have just the stringers still in. How did you get that first layer up? Mine is covered in fiberglass where I cant see the screw heads? Nice job on the boat restoration.

For the engine bay, I wound up cutting each piece along the corners, front, two sides, two bottoms where the batteries mount... The center bottom of the bilge I will not be reusing, there is an inch gap underneath so you could never truly drain all the water out.

As for the floor, once you maker your cuts, just pry it up, the floor isn't screwed into the stringers, just glued.

Thanks for the info. I noticed the same thing with the bilge.

Wow... Works and progress looks really great. Can you tell me I'm not sure are you using poly or epoxy for your work?

Thanks guys, and no kcassells, I'm using poly resin from us composites.

All glassed in. Tabbed in with 1708 and two layers of 1708. Next will be the motor mounts and a few little bulkheads.

Progress has been on the slow side, but I'm in no rush. Got the little bulkheads glassed in and the the mounts pb'd into place.

Looking great! Needing to do my 86.. I have a question, my engine is out, I was thinking of doing the aft of the engine compartment and transom while the engine is at the machine shop and doing the rest of the boat over the winter. Does this seem feasable given the construction?
