Motor will start fine, as soon as you put it in gear it won't idle. You have to rev it very quickly to keep it running. This doesn't work immediately though, can take up to five or more times of trying this to get it to go. And by getting it to go I mean going faster than idle or no wake speed. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Start standard troubleshooting by checking compression on each cyl, then test spark on each cyl. this will ensure that all cyl's are capable of firing.

While the spark plugs are out, look at them carefully in good light to see of one or more is carboned, possibly shorting and not firing at an idle.

Once all the above is satisfactory then check the fuel pump for a pin hole in the diaphragm, causing one cyl to suck fuel from the pump, flooding it at an idle.

Next step is to clean and adjust the carbs, follow the OEM Service Manual to link the carbs and Sync their opening to the timing advance.
