Hey guys just have a few questions. I have a lead on a 1985 16ft arrowglass boat with a 85 hp mercury outboard motor. The guy selling it says he doesn't know much about boats and got it in a trade. Says he does not know if the motor runs. States he does have titles and the boat does appear to need work. I have seen some pictures and it looks like the part of the floor has been removed. I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about these boats as far as there quality and manufacture. The guy has the boat, motor and trailer for sale for 300. I have never done a boat restoration but am mechanically inclined and have the tools and patience to do repairs. I have rebuilt several outboard motors so I think with the proper study and research I would feel comfortable diving into this project for the winter. Just looking for some input from you guys. Thanks

Welcome to iBoats!

Keep searching the forum for topics on Replacing Transoms, Stingers, and Decks. You'll find everything you've ever wanted to know about the subject. Arrow Glass boats are excellent candidates for restoration and there have been several of them done here on the forum. Just as and FYI you should be prepared to spend between $2,000 to $4000 dollars on the total restoration.

Does it have a Trailer?

Yes it does have a trailer with title. seller says he has title and the lights and all work. I do plan on refurbishing the trailer which i have done to by other trailer.

Take this bit of advice into consideration....... Unless it is a special boat that people want....... it will never be worth more then book value..... so if it has a $500 book value.... and you put $1500-$3000 into it....... you still have a $500 boat.

The last year that Mercury made an 85 hp was around 1977 ...........

My advice is if you really want a boat shop for what you want and do not take anything fast that needs work. The guy who took that boat in on trade ...... I hope he gave about $300 trade value.

BOB_VT is correct but... If you like the style of the boat, and it fits your needs and will for several years, you can restore it for less than 75% of the cost of a new one. If you don't mind working your behind off, and enjoy a challenge then it might be just what you're looking for. As Bob says, I'd check that motor.
