Hi ..... just joined today to help my Uncle (who's not Internet savvy) try to remedy a problem. His question is : Does the motor have to be completely removed from the transom in order to replace the two upper motor mounts ( or they may be described as dampeners ) between the transom mount and the actual motor frame ? What is the proper procedure to make the necessary repair ? He tells me it is a 1984 Mercury 50 HP 2 cycle 4 cylinder outboard, serial # 7209889.

I thank you on his behalf.

Re: 1984 Merc 50 hp upper motor mount question

I looked at the exploded parts list, but was unable to figure it out.

Normally the rubber motor mounts are sandwiched between the exhaust extension and the midsection. I could not find these parts on the diaghrams.

Normally you need to pull the powerhead and lower unit to get at the motor mounts.
