I purchased the Mark Twain without proper knowledge of what you need to look for in a boat. I have since learned. The Mark Twain is a nice size for the Northern Wisconsin Lakes I use it on. I like older vehicles of any type and don't mind getting dirty and learning along the way. I found these traits a requirement when working on a rotted old boat. I read forever mainly on this forum and think I am almost there.
The boat: 1984 Mark Twain Vsonic 160 with a Mercruiser 140. Blew a rod 2 weeks after I purchased. My fault knowing what I know now. Over-revved.
Repower from a donor boat: 1985 Mercruiser 4.3L V6, non-balance shaft, 12 bolt intake, thunderbolt IV ignition; A483631, Sterndrive: A471357, 1.84R, Transom Assembly: A472056.
The Mark Twain transom was mush, along with 2/3 of the stringers. The factory fiber glassed approx. half the height of the stringer and left large gaps between the hull and stringers. I am sure it was stored outdoors. Ugghh... I am stupid.
So after many, many hours of reading, grinding and fiber glassing. (Thanks to all who posted here!) I am ready to reinstall the engine and drive.
I am hoping someone could help me out with a Mercuiser manual so I get the install correct.
I have the tools to properly install it. I've already set the motor in place to check my stringer height and alignment and fiber glassed in a spacer to get it right.
I've got ALL oem parts coming Monday and am ready for final (I hope) install. I have set the engine in place a few times checking clearances and exhaust y-pipe fitment. Will be nice with power steering!
If anyone could point me in the direction for the manual I am very appreciative. I will post some pics when I figure that out..
Thanks
