Well here we go my wife and I bought this as a project it needs eng work floor and probably stringers. the upper unit on the out drive needs rebuilt and interior has some tears in it hull looks good and solid. I do not have many pics yet but this weekend I will try to get some up.I have been reading alot on this forum and I tell you I'am looking forward to this project. I'am an auto tech and have people in my life that have done boat repair work but I think I will keep reading on through the forums for more info and advice. So heres to projects. I think this will be an experence that I will learn from just like the last two hotrods I restored for my Uncle.
thank you all for your help and all the great info on this forum Steven S

Re: 1984 century mustang tramsome and deck replace

It has merc 3.0l and the alpha one r drive the boat is a 195 open bow. I have the motor all tore down now the sad thing about that is from the looks if it the eng is new and then it sat for who knows how long. when I got it the int/ext manifold was plugged at the riser and elbow and that started all there problems that the po before the po I got it from was having.:(

Re: 1984 century mustang tramsome and deck replace

so this last weekend I was able to get alittle time on the boat on Sunday I mainly started to remove extra wiring that was added and took out the transume plate . took some more pics mostly of measurments for eng area and battery box area and removed all the gas from the tank. dose any one know if century put a sub floor in on these boats? It looks loike there is a top floor and under that there is a sec florr that sits on the stringers.I 'll see if the pics I took have a better view of what I'am talking about.

Boy do I know how goes to find a soft spot and then once you get into it and find a whole lot of rot. I knew about the soft deck when I bought our boat though. I just didn't realize how far one soft area goes but I do now lol.

Good luck on your rebuild CM.

I have'nt had much time to work on the boat I've had a lot of work lately and it's also ski season I have had the motor out for a while and I'am getting it ready for the machine shop next week. I have decided to rebuild the eng so it is fresh nothing loke getting it all to gether to find out you have to pull it out again. I hope that this weekend I can get some time on it but I have to rebuild my portable cover area fist the snow and freezing rain did that in. So when I can I'll post more and I hope more pics.

Re: 1984 century mustang tramsome and deck replace

by the way i found a new supplier. in arlington... really cheap ... 1 roll of 1.5oz csm is 153 dollars!! and its 100lb roll. the 1708 is pricy but still cheaper than the other places. for 544 a roll.. but thats cuz the roll is 209 lb... if you need more help i cant wait to see your project really kick into high gear.

Bellingham? i didnt know US Composites had a bellingham location... hmm

Compositesone.com is the place in arlington, they got really good prices the only problem is they wont cut you half a roll, they sell bulk exactly the prices i gave above.
Give them a call ask them for a quote, and ask them to email it to you... because the lady i had told me some numbers i had her email it to me than when i came in to put the order in, the prices she quoted me were slightly different on a few things. but the main guy in that facility Jim Mock took care of me and he honored the quote.

Re: 1984 century mustang tramsome and deck replace

hi......century....

wow.....first off..... i have an account with comp one.....great place....and comp one is huge.....they make us comp look like puppies

.however if the quantity is too much .... there is a place called fiberlay in your area.....fiberlay is a main supplyer for the states and will even ship to your door.

ok....from what i can see....you have a fubar-ed repair.

let me explain....

post 9 pic one.......some DOLT used OSB board for a transom repair.....chip board...(what an idiot)

post 18..... pic one.....that crack looks suspiously like a omc conversion kit has been improperly installed.....that is why the osb is there and that is why the huge crack...

this is a failed omc conversion due to the improper materials used.

but all is not lost bud. you will just have to do a few more steps.

i am torn between suggesting that you rip out the insert key hole or just pretend the crack isnt there till later.

what i would like you to do....is ......see if you can move the bottom of the keyhole......can it be pushed back into proper position with out much force?.....is so..... just leave the crack alone till later.

if it is really tough to push back into proper shape....then you will have to cut away the loose portion.
(keep the cut out)

this is so the new transom wood can sit flush against the transom skin.

pick one of the two ways....and just dont worry about the out side for now.

install your new transom core as usual....(see the link im my sig for transom instalation)

make sure when you clamp the new transom in.....you really clamp it well....

ok....after its in and cured then you can glass in the back missing portions using alternating csm and 1708 layers till you have the correct thickness......then gellcoat that.....and cut your key hole.

if you leave the bottom half of the cracked area....install the new transom as usual....
then after its cured.....die grind out the crack.....fill with pb.... and add a layer over the crack of csm....and gellcoat.....then cut your keyhole.

remember......the key to a sucessful i/o transom is flatness and parellelism.....so when you are glassing and gellcoating the exterior....make sure they are flat !
