I need some help with pulling the baring carrier out of the lower unit. I need to check the gears inside. Can anybody tell me a trick on how to get it out?

Remove the screws holding it in and use a puller to remove the bearing carrier.

I have tried and tried again but the puller just won't budge...I'm not sure if it is too corroded or what?

Louisiana, huh? That thing been run in salt water? You might have to destroy it to get it out. And they say salt water doesn't hurt them. Yeah, right. Actually, almost 30 years in fresh water is enough to have similar effects.

Got another question. I need to pull the shift linkage from the midsection of the motor while the lower unit is off because the shift rod move when the handle is moved between gears. Can anybody give me some direction on how to get the cam actuator over the grease fitting?
