I just bought a 16' fish/ski boat. Took it out one time and now the trim/tilt is stuck in the up position and can not get it down. Is it possible to go too far up, or what could be the reason for this? And, how to fix it. Thanks!

82,

Is your "trailering bracket" deployed?

Look on the right side of the engine (looking from behind). There is a bracket that will hold the engine up.

Otherwise, let it down with the manual bleed screw. It is located in a recessed hole on the right side of the engine bracket. Just crack it open slightly, the engine should come down.

Also, you have a solonoid box mounted somewhere near the engine. Take the cover off and switch the up and down solonoids, see if that makes it go down but not up.

Thanks! Releasing that screw did make it come down. Now, another question...how do I tell if it has enough fluid in it? If I need to, how do I "bleed" the system? I've heard to use transmission fluid. Is this correct?

Thanks a bunch!

82,

If it did not have enough fluid, it would not go all the way up. Use OMC tilt/trim fluid.

You fill it by removing the screw in the motor/pump housing with the engine all the way up.

The system is self bleeding.

Do you hear clicking when you try to make it go up and down? If so, that is good. That means the solonoids are working.

Thanks guys. I brought it down manually but then would not go back up with the button, so I checked and there was not a drop of hydrolic fluid in there. Filled her up, and she works better than ever. Easy fix, if you ask me. Now, I'm finally out on the water!
Thanks again!

82boater....we need a follow up here....

When you filled the reservoir, was the engine in the full up position?

The correct way to check the reservior level is to run the engine all the way up. Check the level and top off if needed. Cycle the engine up and down about four times and check the level again with the engine all the way up. Do this procedure as needed until the level in the reservoir does not need topped off.
