Hello all,
I have a 1983 25HP Johnson, I believe the hand rewind starter is grinding on the flywheel. It has fresh worn marks and makes a kinda high pitch scraping noise. The thing is it only makes this noise while in high rpm while plained down. I've gone over the lower unit with a fine tooth comb and found no issues that would make that sound. I pulled the hand rewind starter and noticed some worn down markes on the flywheel as well as a small amount of metal shavings. This engine has been a great engine and has ran great for a long time. Any insight, pointers, fixes, general tips are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance hope everyone has a wonderful day! And happy Veterans day weekend to my fellow Vets!

I would say 0.010 / 0.015 " thick.----But have a good look at the recoil sheeve to see if it is loose.-----And see how much the flywheel will lift up.----Perhaps a bad bearing on the bottom of the crankshaft??

Thanks, checked the flywheel no up or down movement. Put some small washers on and will test it out tomorrow morning. Thanks for the recommendation.
