I've had this boat for a few years and it is great! The floor is getting pretty bad and the console is in need of some TLC. I'm going to put a new floor and console, and reinforce the transom a little better. I'm also considering a newer motor but don't know how high I can go. I've tried looking up info about older models but can't find any concrete answers. HIN SMK02400M81B. I know it's a Smoker Craft, serial number 02400, built in September of 81.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Here are some pics of the boat to help out...

A 1982 Smoker Craft should still have the max capacity plate affixed to the transom.

A transom should never need reinforcement unless it needs to be replaced. If it needs to be replace, theres no better time then while the deck (floor) is out.

Cant access the google drive pix, perhaps its my android cell.

Thanks for the feedback. Reinforce wasn't the best choice of words. The aluminum rail under the motor is cracked and the piece of wood between the motor and the transom is falling apart and rotted. The transom itself is fine. I double checked and didn't see a max rating anywhere, unless it's covered by the motor.

That looks exactly like my friends old boat other than his was a 1977 I believe .if I remember correctly it measured just at 16 foot and 72 wide .if you saw my 76 ss160 starcraft you would say yours and mine were the same boat or at least twins.my boat is just a couple of inches wider than the smokercraft but they both had the same specs.max 85 hp.yours being newer would be 90 hp to match omc,s increasing the hp from 85 to 90.heres a pic of my buddies plate.

Registration says 15ft but it measures 16ft so I think it got changed along the way. It has a 60 horse on it currently. You guys have been very helpful, thanks!

If its anything like mine the 60 is plenty of hp .I can load mine up with a ton of gear and gas and the etec moves her along just fine .I will talk to my buddy ,his was or said 15 feet also but it was actually 16 or 1 inch less .looking at you boat and my chums you would think smokercraft copied starcraft exactly except the starcraft is actually a coulpe of inches wider.
