1982 Mercury 40HP water pump

I need to remove my water pump, however, I am not sure where to begin. When I take the screws off the bottom part of the shroud beneath the motor will this allow the shroud to drop out of the way of the water pump?

Do you have the lower unit removed already?

I'm looking for "maintenance manual" (in french or in english) to install my water pump op my Mercury 402 (40 HP, 2 stokes).

my water pump has been removed and when the last ownier tried to reinstall, he has problem with a shaft.
That's why i'm looking for maintenance manual before desinstall the water pump out of the engine.

Your 40hp is probably similar to my 35hp. Read the great response I received. It took me less than 1.5 hrs to install a new impeller.
