Pool noodles are not particularly waterproof, have you ever picked one out of a pool that has been floating? They do soak up water a fair bit, so I have to put myself in the 'hater' category. White styrofoam will float for years. If you are going to spend money on epoxy go ahead and use real flotation instead of something you get from the Dollar Tree!

I have never in my life encountered a waterlogged pool noodle. White styro however, sucks up water like a sponge. I really enjoyed the hundred pounds of it I pulled out of my boat.

I don't understand the noodle hate. This is what was in my boat from the factory: http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/DSCF2225.jpg

Yeah I can really see how noodles are a real mickey mouse alternative to that professional grade stuff

I've never had the picture sizing problem with the new forum but.. You can use MS Paint on your puter to resize yer pics. What Version of windows are you using?? Let me know and I'll guide you thru the resize process if you need it. OR you can use what I use a FREE download Editor called PAINT.NET Kinda a cross between paint and Photoshop LITE. You can get it here...

I thought I had it figured out, do you see a problem with my pics ? I see them fine except for what I see in most everyones posts that you need to scroll right to see the whole thing.

I use Photobucket and resize all my pics to 640 x 480 before coping them here.

Or is it that I just take horrible pics in general, I know that's true as my fishing buddy always complains that the pics I take of his fish look way smaller than the pic's he takes of my fish :D

Ouch !!!!!!! 2 weeks since my last update. Really been working on the resto but it seems SLOW....................... even though to me I've been hammering it.

I've got a few updates, things are moving forward.

Had to use the big yellow Ford to push her into bay 3 for interior work.

What a winter !!!!!!!!

Transom went in a little tougher than I expected, must of been all those coats of epoxy. It fit very tight and I was nervous tapping it into place but it ended up fitting sweet. Luckly the old transom came out in one solid piece which I used as a pattern. I gotta say, factory original transom was a piece of crap in comparison to the new one.
Thinking of leaving it un painted ?

Most of the transom hardware installed, needed another run to grab the rest of it, I think I have all that's needed now after $150 worth of stainless.

THanks to Jas and the tip on noodles I get to move on with the flooring as well.

P3140375.jpg

Got 60 noodles and tossed them in, I could use 30 more from a rough guessimate, at a buck a piece I'm going to stuff her full of them.

Since I went with 1/2" ply flooring I wanted to add some beef, some I know have spongy floors using 1/2" ply so I fabricated some 1/16" x 1" angle aluminum stiffners for additioal support, at $6 per 6' I could resist.

I added a length where the fuel tank and battey would sit.
P3140372.jpg

Also put them where I felt they'd be needed to cover a span.

Back at it Thursday, I really want to get the flooring in asap, Opening day d fast approaching.

Paint your transom. Epoxy isn't UV resistant. Besides, doesn't this look nice? http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/DSCF2640.jpg :p

Nice work. I fit 72 noodles in my 18' with a space left open for a ski/rod locker.

It is true, Captain Q is still learning how to make my fish look smaller. I think he is getting better as none of my fish are ever as big even when they are two lbs heavier.
He is the best at deceptional fish photo's.

Re: 1980 Blue Fin Sportsman Restomod

OK got a little more done today. Added more structual support across the stringers and loaded the noodles in to place.

P3160379.jpg

I added a piece of flat stock where the seam will be and riveted it in.

P3160380.jpg

Then installed the first piece of decking.
P3160381.jpg

Another shot of support with noodles layed in.
P3160382.jpg

60 noodles aint gonna cut it. I need 30 more probably. I've sliced them in half length wise and filled every spot possible. I had to really put alot of pressure on the deck compressing the noodles in order to get the rivets to reach.

I'm happy with how it's coming out but I had no clue how long all this was actualy going to take. I've got 5 weeks left to launch and it's not looking good.

When was sombody going to fill me in on how much time this was going to take

Made a little more progress this week. Installed all the Noodles, yikes 102 of them to fill it. then riveted the 4 floor sections in, everything fit as planned. Sweet.

Next thing is laying down the vinyl flooring. Not going to make opening day for sure, oh well I need to get over it.

Tried to get a bit done, here's this weeks update.

Laid down the vinyl flooring, not fun and had some bubbling but after a few days I managed to get it all flat. Side panels in too.

Looks good to me. I had some bubbling with my vinyl also but some time in the sun seemed to have pretty much eliminate it.
