Wow, I've never heard of such a thing....you must like this lake.

Ya Dj it's a new rule as of 2 years ago once Zebra muscles hit Mass they freaked out and wouldn't let us use the lake until they had a plan to ensure no invasive critters of any type could be brought into the lake via boats or trailers.

It's Bostons water supply and serves millions of folks. Actually most of the fisherman that fish there already had a boat just for use there, like us we had 3, 2 for this lake and one bass boat for going to Maine. We since sold the smoker craft and are building this one just for the lake.
It's crystal clear with depths to 125' and covers about 30,000 acres or so.

The lake has some of the best fishing available any where, has limited pressure and is closed to ice fishing so LL salmon get to 8 lbs, lake trout run 4 to 8 ave and some go 20 lbs. Our favorite is smallies which ave 3 lbs and we get them 6 lb so ya we LOVE the place.

No pleasure boating is allowed only fishing :D and we have about 3 months to get her ready for opening day

Something I'm nervous about is the transcom redrilling. After having 2 engines on it there's a ton of holes. I'll get some better pics tomorrow to elaborate, but my concern is filling all the holes then redrilling and hitting the other side alignment. I have the old wood and can use that as a template but i'm wondering if it'll line up perfect or not.

I'll get close up's of this and the back aluminum up wed night. We're having a blizzard tonight so it's a boat project day wed, no work :D

I just drilled some in my new transom tonight. I just made darn sure my drill was going straight. I was actually holding a small square up to the bit as i went. I was 4 for 4, they all lined up. I would have liked a second person to step back and sight my drill being square but it worked out alright.

Thanks, I looked again today and it doesn't seem to be to diffecult. I was wondering if I can use my old transcom wood as a pattern for drill holes.:D I took more pics today but the site is telling me files too large :(

Re: 1980 Blue Fin Sportsman Restomod

We got the rest of the floor out, all the wiring and somewhat cleaned.

Couple of questions, One not boat related :D I'm not a big puter guy and I took pic's and they won't load, says file to large, and as you can see from this string I can't get them to look like all you guys. What's the best process to upload pics? I looked at faq's and still can't get it right:facepalm:

I need to get some supplies for this weekends work. Any tips on where to get and what brands etc.... for :

Glu-vit,
Epoxy for transcom
Paint stripper

I see some of you put matting on the transcom rebuild, is that required ?

Thanks

Wow, thanks for the help guys, it's amazing when you know the process :D

Anyway here's the pic of the transcom backing plate filled with holes I won't need, Is JB weld the stuff you all would use ?

Here's a shot of the front after we got the floor and wiring out.

And this is the rotted transcom.

And last is the back ready for cleaning and Gluvit

As for the Glu-Vit and Epoxy, I recommend the store here at I-Boats. It's got almost everything you could think of and the prices are very hard to beat. You might want to try a local hardware store for the paint stripper though. By the way, you've got one sweet boat!

Thanks WCI, I looked into that and think I'll give I-Boats store a shot. Great info along with product descriptions including how to advise. I thin it's a great boat as well, hopefully with all of the help I've been getting here it will turn out exactly how I dream of it !

I filled my extra holes with JB and used little squares of aluminum flashing as backers. That helps give the JB more to bite onto and less likely to "pop" when you sand them down flush on the outside. By the way, it's "transom" not "transcom" :D

Are you kidding me  Well it's not the first time I've spelled something wrong :D

I as going to do JB after the new "transom" wood was installed and that would help, yes ?

Thanks Ez

It didn't on my Jupiter. Although they didn't pop OUT, they did pop. I think you want your patches to be independent of the wood.

Thanks EZ, I'll make sure to use backing plates.

Q! Awesome project! Your local lake sounds sweet, no jet skis either!

Hey, great news about your project is that is very similar to a lot of the projects around here, especially the Starcraft SS. This site ooozes info for ya.

Man do I love your boat barn, excellent:D

When I did mine I found a tool at "harbor frieght" that you mount you drill on and its kinda like a drill press but it will drill on the angle you need to come out in the inside skin were you need to be.Did the boat have pour in foam in it? Here are some pics of mine so far. I am getting ready to get back to work on her thus the end of hunting is coming soon...http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/...how&track=share_email_album_view_click....God luck on the project...its alot of fun too

Well, I'm bummed :( I wanted to put an under floor fuel tank in but it just isn't going to fit. Only 4" of stringer hieght under the splash well. I really don't like the plastic 6 gallon tanks sitting on the floor.

Any ideas without building a box above the floor ?

I have my splash pan back in now and have space laid out for 2, 6 gallon tanks and 2 batteries under it with plenty of room..I'm also going to reshape the front casting area so I can have battery and storage under it. I do hunt Ohio...Harrison..Licking.. Guernsey.. Pike..I hunt as much as I can every year down there.

Well that's kind of how mine came minus front part and I'll probably have to keep it somewhat the same.

My, small world, I go to Licking, Muskingum, Chocston and my buddy hunts Guernsey. I only get about 10 days there, it's a 750 mile trip for me. Awesome area !
