1980 50hp 4 cyl idle problems

I have no issues with this motor starts perfect,runs very good, my problem is the idle rpm,s ,idles around 1000 rpm,s I Can slow it down by moving timing arm physically, but its spring loaded and I see no adjustment, am I missing something. thanks

is that neutral idle or in gear idle?

I'm sorry. What I meant is that the RPM in neutral or in gear?

Thanks for responses but figured it out, had no free play in throttle cable backed off brass fitting couple turns idled right down..
