1980 25 hp merc

Hello, help please, I have a 1980 25hp MERC, I have good spark and getting fuel, but won't fire, I can't seem to locate the neutral switch, can anyone help

You probably don't have a neutral safety switch, a neutral safety switch will prevent the plugs from firing, and you have spark.

I merged the 2 topics you started about this motor, but you listed it as a 1980 in 1 topic, but 1984 in the other. Which is it?

As the text was the same, I'm confident you dont have an 80 and an 84.

The neutral safety switch on that model is only for the electric starter, stops it from working with the motor in gear has nothing to do with spark. Do you have electric start and is it not working. What is your compression has the motor ever been overheated.

You're right, but it would need to be turning over to get spark, and he said it does, so that means it's either a manual start or the switch doesn't work.

Mercury 18/20/25 hp have both electric and recoil starts together not one or the other like Evinrude. That's why I don't know why he is looking for the neutral safety switch. So what is the compression and has it been overheated.

True, kind of a non issue on the switch, he needs to look elsewhere.
