They were a really sought after engine back in their day. Lots of torque in a small package. They'd run well and provide years of reliable service with some normal preventative maintenance. Easy to work on. By today's standards, they are noisy, smoky gas hogs. Guess that's why I like 'em. Where else can you find 140 hp out of a 99.6 cubic inch normally-aspirated block..

My 1970 115 hp is starting to show it's age. Starting to lose compression. So, I'm looking for an upgrade, but yet I'm a cheap @$$. Found this motor for around $900 plus boat/trailer. I don't plan on keeping boat and trailer though. What's normal compression for these? I would assume 120-140 would be expected?

I'd think the normal compression would be around 135 with stock 140 heads.
