Re: 1979 Starcraft Islander

I have not done much over the winter as my building at home is not heated. I plow snow and winter will just not let go. Trailer is getting a little love now, The outside is scheduled for paint in a few weeks. My neighbor who has a semi-tractor repair shop is going to let me use his paint building. I just in the last few weeks replaced the bellows, gimbal bearing, shift cable, put new wires on the trim position and limit senders, (they tested fine with an ohm meter) changed out the points for electronic ignition, and some other little misc. I stilll need to do some work in the cuddy area as i only have about 1/2 the cushions. I have enough vinyl to redo them but i think I might just let the girls have pink yoga pads in there. They have been begging for this thing to be pink. I was able to straighten the windshield frame and got a piece cut for the windshield. I would like to add some kind of glovebox in front of the port side seat, and put an AM/FM radio in it. The cushions on the back side of the pilot chairs are cheap PFD's. I need to put some snaps on them so they don't blow around. I figured they may as well be dual purpose, and if they get ratty they are cheap to replace. I know I have some gaps in my pictures, I don't think to take them as I am working on this ship.

Re: 1979 Starcraft Islander

Need some ideas what to do with all of the cleats and air scoops. They are aluminum and they are pitted pretty good. I thought about having my cousin throw them in a big tumbler at his machine shop but I dont know what will happen. Any Ideas?

I Would like this thing to sit back on the trailer about half as far as it is hanging over now. I moved it back to work on it and, wonder if I can just make the bunks a little longer, or if it has to sit as far forward as it was. It is a Rolco trailer with keel rollers and 4 bunks.

Plenty of storage GC, cool! As you know, that is round about the same direction I am aheaded.:D

Yah, your hardware looks about like mine did coming off.

I have opted to replace all all my rigging. I've checked on re plating, very expensive. I have done very well on eBay grabbing up good deals when I see them. Buying new gear will cost me way less than re plating the old.

You have done very nice work on your boat. I for one like carpet as well.

For you scoops and stuff, if you can smooth them out some how, powdercoating is very durable and pretty inexpensive....just a thought.

Oooo, missed that post, sorry gc!

I think I'd go for chrome, something very nice about a little shiny on the deck;):)

What a beautiful job, I just bought the same boat a little while ago, I plan to do pretty well the same thing you did with a few modifications, like a small fridge and stove. You did an amazing job, love the carpet and color. My boat is blue on the outside and I have motor work to do first but within the next couple years I should have a few pics up here too. Happy fishing.
