Re: 1979 Starcraft Islander. I/0 to outboard conversion.
I got thinking about this boat and site again..as I wanted to get the boat launched 2 weeks ago.
Weather here has not been good.
Now to your guestions.
I?ll take pics soon as it?s in the water again.
Understanding I never moved anything, including fuel tanks and live well.
I?ve also installed a 9.9 25 inch kicker. ( works well)
Both batteries are as close as you can get to the transom.
The kicker 5 gallon removable tank is now under the floor boards consuming part of the old i/o motor space. The o/b oil tank sits there now also, including a second bilge pump with still more room)
Sitting in the water..with the 150 merc and 9.9 kicker all tanks full of fuel..with 29 inches of set back ..looking at what used to be the old water line ie water marks and guessing by hull config. It sits approx 1 to maybe 2 inches lower in the stern.
Because I was starting almost from scratch..but I had scene a factory built 2010 islander with a bracket and o/b. I installed a cnc hydrolic jack plate.
I also install hydrolic trim tabs.
Honestly once set..other than a boat load of people..I never touch.
I?m glad I did..it opens my options to raise the o/b, but truth is it all works within 1 inch of guestimated anyway.
Also understand to this..I?m a fast boater guy..I also have a hydrostream and run surface props where an inch or two re shaft height matters.
Yes I tied the new transom re large turn buckles to 2 areas as looking over the whole thing for days on end.
The bracket installed..there was no way it was going to move.
Next weak link was the dual riveted transom metal.
So I connected 2 to the old floor i/o springers already there and 2 more port and starboard to the side gunnels to a couple of angle brackets I fab and riveted.
Nothing has moved.
do you have any pictures of the boat sitting in the water at rest, especially the stern? what height was the top of the plateform settled on at? and what was the height of the top hole for your outboard mount off the hull. also what was it you did to tie the transom into the sides of the hull....if you did at all?
