Sooooo.....Your stringers are 100% dry, solid and good to go, but the transom is bad???

Boats of this vintage, with a rotten transom, typically have rotten stringers as well. Drilling in ONE spot on ONE stringer is NOT going to be a good enuf test to tell you if the stringers below are sound. I would suggest, at the very least, to cut out a 3 foot section of the deck, and then "Core" test the stringers. If they ALL test good then plug the hole, patch the deck and then as you suggest cut back the stringers to replace the transom and then "Sister" in the replacement stringer pieces. Pics WILL be a BIG help BUT you really need to get below deck to really KNOW what is going on down there.

That sounds a little drastic wood. I know I wouldn't be cuttin' a 3 foot section out of a solid deck. If he drills and checks them near the transom and they check out ok, I wouldn't go looking for other trouble. With a rotted transom and good everything else, this sounds like an excellent Seacast candidate to me. Dig out the old wood with an electric chainsaw (yes, believe it or not that's the preferred method), pour in the new transom, and you're done! Granted, it ain't cheap.

Maybe, but if the stringers ARE bad I'd hate to see him rebuild the transom only to hve to rip the deck up and redo the stringers. Seacast MIGHT be the ticket but I'd like to see pics of the set up first. A lot depends on how the stringers attach to the transom and IF the transom has a thick inner skin. Lot's of variable here.
