Hello everyone! I am new to the site. I have been viewing the forum for about a month now, and decided to post my thread. I bought a 1979 16' Starcraft Supersport, trailer, and two motors about a month ago. I have a bunch of pictures, and I am slowly restoring the boat. I hope by next Spring I will have a nice boat for my family. (Me, Wife, and four kids). I purchased this boat for $100 bucks and two old fishing poles. Hope I got a good deal. I am pretty busy, so I will post pictures as I get time!IMG_20120819_111741.jpgIMG_20120819_111759.jpgIMG_20120819_111807.jpgIMG_20120819_111816.jpgIMG_20120819_111827.jpg

Ok, so far I have almost the trailer completed. Sanded, painted, new bunks, and carpet. I still have lights and wiring to go. The two motors I got are a fifty horse Johnson, and 70 hp. Evinrude. Both have compression, and that is far as I got. Everything on this boat needs completed! Floor is ripped out, transom, and all interior is out. Boat is currently flipped, and being sanded down. Here are some more pictures. Did I get an okay deal???

Here is picture of trailer almost done! The boat stripped and flipped, and almost ready for paint. And my buddy "Brutus" who is keeping watch of my progress!!! "Keith Stone" is typically giving me motivation and progress also! I hope I am doing a good job so far! Pretty proud of my progress so far! Being a nurse, this is good for me!!! I am used to fixing people rather than boats! Very good stress reliever though!!

Welcome to Tinland, aoward. Ah, the magic question, did you get a good deal? If you can get the motors running and sell the one you don't want, I say absolutely. If only one motor runs, I say you did. If neither motor can be brought back to life. there are still parts to sell. You can't go wrong with an SS/trailer/2 motors for a C note and two rods. Now if the rods had reels too, all bets are off. LOL

You did good. We have plenty of drydock spaces. Just pick one out, move her in and keep the pics coming. And have fun!

Great boat and an awsome deal. Welcome to the Starmada. Is there a HIN number on the starboard side of the transom just below the transom corner cap? By looking at the design of the seats in the bow and the rub rail on the sides of the hull, I'm going to say the boat is early 70's, 2 or 3

Welcome to Iboats AO!

I think Jas has stated how good a deal you got pretty well. :)

You've made great progress so far, nothing like having a vision and jumping right in.

I like that catwalk down the trailer.

Re: 1979 16' Starcraft Super Sport Full Restoration

Hi guys!!! Ok so have not had time to work on boat, but I do have it flipped, sanded, and ready for paint!!! Now is the BIG question!!! I have been researching paint!!! The bottom paint is just too expensive for my budget!!! Should I spray with compressor, or rattle cans? Or should I roll on!!! I am very confused and don't know what kind of paint to use! This boat will always be in fresh water. It will be on trailer!! And it will mosst likely not be in the water more than a day!!! Any help from you professionals would be greatly appreciated!! This paint decision is really slowing me down, and I feel like I am making no progress!!! Trailer is done though! More pictures to come!!! Thanks in advance for any help!

There have been many that swear by the roller method with rust oleum. If done correctly, it gives you a flawless paint job. I'm sure the guys will help you along with the methods.

Not real sure what the roller method is! Can anyone give me a link on this. I did buy a gallon of Rustoleum Gray Aluminum Primer today and a gallon of Gloss White! I bought some foam brushes and expensive fine rollers. Now any help on to make my boat look grat would be appreciated!

Here's a YouTube vid on roll and tip. R & T is using a roller to apply the paint followed by a brush to smooth. There are a few other techniques, search "boat painting" on YuoTube. Very few of the guys re-doing Tinnies are spraying and they look darn good.

Woodonglass has a paint formula here It's in post #238.
