Started removing old vinyl , po rebuilt and used marine grade plywood, we want pedestal seats so need to pull parts of it up and reinforce below floor

Lifted the floor on each side and slid aluminum plates so that we will be able to secure the seat bases through the plywood and into the plates.

How's that tank and lines? Looks like the filler is the newer Shields type.

Yes the filler looks newer in good shape I might lift the tank and see whats underneath, one of my V5's had a rotted 2x4 underneath I had to remove it and add new supports.

We've finally started again on my V5, got the motor off and cut down the rear splash well, going to build a rear casting deck there, the transom is really solid and dry so we don't have to change that.

We finished redesigning the transom. shortened the splash well by 7 inches, removed the gas tank and removed old wet black 1/2 plywood and replaced with 1/2 inch rubber for support.

Interesting, the tank is a V belly rather than a flat bottom rectangle with an AL bed for it. The little strips of rubber they put in there look familiar though.

Thanks Chevy, yes Rob the tank in my 79 V5 was flat as well, I guess in 78 they used a V shaped one.

We clad the splash well with diamond plate aluminum.

was the coffin for the tank a completely sealed area/compartment? Meaning no weep holes or water transfer. I seam to see a lot of guys putting tanks in now with water/fuel to the bilge area passing under the tank.

Thanks guys, yes kc it was a sealed area surrounding the tank we drilled holes so the water could escape, don't like the idea of water being trapped in there, We've done a few newer boats with built in tanks and they don't do that anymore, not sure why starcraft did that, I guess so fuel couldn't escape.

Yea I get it. Just seem to remember coast guard didn't want fuel/fumes going into battery area. I do believe it's supposed to be a concealed area. A deck under the tank works and water can flow under that. Then you have to deal with all the new height issues and tank.
I've seen guys put a valve on the exit so then you could actually let the flow out while being monitored for fuel.
I like that idea.
Not really caring anymore how anyone ends up doing that area, cause everyone has opinions. I just see the logic of no fuel getting back to battery compartment on ignition.
Then again people are still foaming tanks in...…..say what?

Hey kc personally I don't like using expanding foam, prefer to ridged blue or pink foam I think it allows the water to flow back and drain. We got the inside of the transom clad to just below the deck will be.
