Is a single ply patch on the inside of the hull effective? I've read that some people put their patch on the outside of the hull, which implies it's only a single ply. Cosmetically, it would look a whole lot better to put the patch on the inside and fill the remaining depression/hole on the outside of the hull, opposite the patch, with JB or MT, and then sand, feather, paint.

My corrosion was all the way through. I filled with jb weld and used a patch on both sides so that the jb weld on both sides was supported. With how weak the metal there now was, it just makes me feel better knowing that any forces will go from solid original metal, through a well supported fastener, and then an even force on both sides. If your pitting doesn't go all the way through, you can probably get away with a single ply as long as it is at least as thick as the original metal, and the fasteners are well to the outside of the weakend zone.

To note, I had a secondary pitting area just foreward of the last rib, to a much lesser degree. I patched this with a single plate on the bottom, but the metal was much more intact, just a few bb sized holes. Also this section would have been more difficult to patch top and bottom.

I might also be concerned about any unprotected fillers used along the keel, with how abrasion prone this area is.
