1978 Johnson 115 hp not charging?

Can anyone tell me where to start, to find out why it's not charging?

Test the rectifier. The process has been explained here dozens of times. If you can't find them, we can say it again.

O.K. I found out how to test the rectifier, all though I tried to test it with a basic digital tester. When I did that I did not get any readings. I found another post which mentioned that a tester which test diodes is necessary. I purchased one and found out the rectifier is bad. I bought a new rectifier and will be going out this weekend, so we shall see. Thank you.

I don't even have a tach! I am really green with boating but learning a lot.

It was the rectifier, charging again.
