1978 70 hp johnson not peeing water

I just picked up a boat that has a 70 hp jonhson..Starts right up but it doesn't start peeing water rite of way.Is there a thermostate that needs to open or maybe the empellor is shot? Should i let it run a few minutes?

Chances are good that the impeller is worn down. The "pee stream" should be almost immediate (no more than 30 seconds or so). It's not a big job to replace the impeller and it might save you some problems down the road.

I would give it up a minute. The previous owner probaly started it up with out water and burned up the impeller. You could try to blow compressed air through the pee hole but my guess id the impeller is shot.

Where does it pee from? I can't seem to find where it is supposed to exit the engine. Thanks,
