i'm just messing with ya. more power to you. i'm just too lazy personally to make it as nice as you and a lot of the others here are doing. plus mine will be left in dry storage for months at a time and i figure that it looks less likely to have attractive pilferables aboard if it's a little tatty lookin on the outside. sort of a Q-ship.

Re: 1977 Starcraft Supersport

I havnt done any boat work lately. Yesterday i took our ski boat out and ended up shredding the gears in the upper drive. I have another drive laying around im gonna borrow the gears out of to get by since we are having my sons birthday party at the lake this weekend. A new gear set is over $500 so thats out of the question right now.

Wow those gears are definetly grenaded aren't they. Crossing my fingers for you hoping that the borrowed gears work great.

Ouch, that gear looks nasty. Is there a story behind that Drew?

Holy Smokes! It almost looks as if that pinion was made from aluminum the way the steel smeared. fingers-crossed on the donor-drive!

It lost oil due to a leaking seal on the input of the upper drive. After this I will plan on re sealing my drives every year.

Tomorrow I'm going to shim the gears and hopefully get the drive put back together pending availability of seals.

That sucks, at least you have a set to replace them.

I got my drive put together today. Its really not to hard, just time consuming shimming it. Tomorrow it goes in the water for the real test.

Re: 1977 Starcraft Supersport

Work has been super busy this past week and looks like it will continue the next few weeks. I'm not complaining as I could really use the extra money right now.

I did get our ski boat back together and on the water last weekend and it performed flawlessly. I did lose about 8 mph on the top end since I put in 1.98 gears instead of the original 1.84. The repair didn't cost anything but a few hours of my time so I guess I can live with it. Hopefully it will hold up through the summer and I'll rebuild with the correct gear in the off season. I even got to do a little skiing for the first time this year.

I also want to wish a Happy fathers day to all the fellow iboats dads.

Great pix, good job on the 'free' gear swap. Using 1 is so much better (more relaxing anyway) then working on 1.....

Happy Father's day back at ya

Always good to stop and get a little R&R in. I enjoy water skiing also. Hopefully I will get out there myself in the coming weeks :)
