I hear the extended fall and summer weather is coming to as end soon, glad you got to do some warm weather work into the winter. Looking great so far, I can see a 2016 splash for sure. :thumb:

Ordered some bunk carpet off evilbay.. Order said it would show up next Wednesday.. It showed up today..:D
If the weather holds out tomorrow I will work on the trailer.. If not, I can work on the bunks in the garage..

So do you gentlemen glue and staple the bunk carpet or just staple it?

Here's a pic of the 50 ft roll.. Its a dark navy blue..

I used PL premium poly glue and SS staples.

For the mounting of the bunk boards... I know a lot of guys do it the easy way with lags but... I pre-drilled holes, counter sunk for carriage bolt heads, then I coated the boards with spar 3 coats. I cut the carpet to fit, put the PL on the boards and in the counter sunk holes, dropped the bolts in and then wrapped the carpet and stapled it down. After the glue set up I mounted the boards and the bolts won't spin when tightening the nuts down.

I counter sunk bolts and stapled. Didn't seal the Douglas fir 2 x 6's.

Stainless staples.

I read alot about it before I did it. I sealed my bunk boards on the top and sides, thats also where I used glue and stapled the sides only.

One thing I also read was to keep the wood grains like a rainbow and not the other way so moisture would drain from the wood better. Thats why I didnt seal or capet the bottom.

Thats just what my reading up on it made me do. I cant verify the science behind it but it made sense to me anyway.

Yeah I read something about that too but having an unsealed piece of wood wrapped in wet carpet not being sealed from moisture intrusion didn't make sense to me. I used 2x6's x 4 for my Chief bunks and there's a 2" strip all the way down the length in the middle that isn't wrapped with carpet so the wood is exposed.

Also on the loading end of the bunks I cut a 45 degree bevel halfway into the thickness so when the hull meets the bunk it's got a bit of a ramp rather than a blunt end to impact when loading.

A guy can always inspect the bunks condition after launching is the nice thing about boat trailers.

Thanks for the information guys..
Weather was cold this weekend.. Didn't get much done on the trailer..
Did get the bunks ready to seal with spar.. Used a router with a 1/2" round over bit on all the top edges of the 2 x 4's..
Have a great week..
